Report 2024

The quality of bathing water in 2024 was monitored and evaluated within the framework of the "Monitoring Program for the Quality of Bathing Water on the Coasts of Greece", which is prepared under the responsibility of the General Secretariat for Natural Environment and Water of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (Y.P.EN.) and the relevant Water Directorates of the Decentralized Administrations. The program is co-financed by national resources, the European Union, within the framework of the NSRF 2021-2027 and the Green Fund.

During the implementation of the monitoring program, the requirements of the European Directive 2006/7/EC on the management of bathing water quality, as incorporated into national legislation by Joint Ministerial Decision
8600/416/E103/2009 (B’ 356), are complied with. By decision of the Minister of Environment and Energy, it was determined that the bathing season for the year 2024 lasts five (5) months from June 1 to October 31.

  • 1,693 bathing waters are classified in the category of at least "sufficient quality" (includes the points of categories 1, 2 and 3).
    • Of the total of 1,694 bathing waters, which were assessed: 1,677 bathing waters are classified in the category of "excellent quality", of which 1 is located in inland waters.
    • 15 bathing waters are classified in the category of "good quality", and
      they are all located in coastal waters.
    • 1 of the bathing waters is characterized as "sufficient quality" and
      is located in coastal waters.
    • 1 of the bathing waters is classified as "poor quality" and
      is located in coastal waters.
  • 34 new bathing waters were not assessed.
  • 1 of the bathing waters was not assessed.
