2016 Report

The 2016 report provides an assessment of bathing water quality on the basis of a statistical analysis, according to the provisions of article 4 and Annex I of the Directive 2006/7/EC, for the set of bathing water quality data compiled for 2016 in relation to that bathing season and the three preceding bathing seasons (i.e. 2013‐2015).

1507 bathing waters were assessed of the 1542 bathing waters, which were included in the monitoring programme in Greece for 2016. 34 bathing waters sites were monitored for the first time in 2015 and were not evaluated since the minimum number of samples required by the Directive has not yet been collected. However, from the initial results of 2015 and 2016 the concentrations of microbiological parameters remain below the respective criteria values of excellent quality. One bathing water was not evaluated since monitoring was not been possible due to prevented access to that bathing water site.

For the remaining 1507 bathing waters, the classification results are the following:

  • 1496 bathing waters are classified as “excellent quality”. 1495 of them are located in coastal waters and one in inland waters.
  • 10 bathing waters are classified as “good quality”. 9 of them are located in coastal waters and one in inland waters.
  • 1 bathing water is classified as “poor quality”, located in coastal waters.
  • None of bathing waters was classified as “poor quality”.
